Job Title- PT NURSE TUTOR - ASSOCIATE DEGREE NURSING PROGRAM (Pool)

Position Status- Part Time

Classification Title- Part-Time Tutor-Up to 19 hpw

Work Location- Main Campus-3600 N Garfield St, Midland, TX 79705

Job Summary- Tutors students in accordance with College policies and procedures. This position is for a Nurse Tutor. The tutor is responsible for leading one-on-one or small group lessons that cater to the identified needs and goals of the students. Tutor develops, organizes, and implements learning strategies for students enrolled in the Associate Degree Nursing Program. 


Required Qualifications

  • Associate’s degree in Nursing
  • Current Texas Registered Nurse License, without stipulations, or eligibility for licensure
  • Minimum of two years work experience as a registered nurse (RN)
  • Ability to communicate effectively with students and nursing faculty
  • Ability to tutor associate degree nursing students in a variety of topics, content, and competencies
  • Skill in organizing resources and establishing priorities to accomplish positive results 
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in nursing 
  • Tutoring or teaching experience in the field of nursing or other health-related settings 
  • Completion of education courses on the collegiate level 
  • Experience with the Canvas learning management system
  • Experience with using zoom or Microsoft teams
Essential Functions
  • Provide individual and group instruction sessions based on student and or program needs
  • Provide instruction on test-taking skills appropriate for answering questions using the formats found in the nursing licensing exam, NCLEX-RN 
  • Be familiar with the current NCLEX-RN test plan and the Associate Degree Nursing curriculum 
  • Work with students to help them understand and apply key concepts essential for safe, skilled,  knowledgeable, compassionate, and competent nursing practice 
  • Collaborate with the Associate Degree Nursing faculty to enhance student learning outcomes
  • Utilize sound teaching methods to meet the learning needs of a diverse student population
  • Incorporate innovative teaching strategies and technology As appropriate, develop and distribute teaching materials to supplement classroom lectures, including study guides
  • Maintain professional competence that is current with modern healthcare and nursing theory, procedures, and clinical practice 
  • Adapt teaching techniques to a variety of learning styles 
  • Be punctual for tutoring sessions 
  • Maintain confidentiality of student information
  • Effectively assess student learning needs and design plans for remediation 
  • Integrate practical and achievable study and learning strategies to maximize the students’ potential for academic progress
  • Encourage students to develop a systematic approach to studying that will serve them in many courses
  • Interact with students of diverse backgrounds and levels of nursing knowledge
  • Provide students positive and constructive feedback
  •  Offer feedback on progress to students’ nursing instructors where appropriate  
  • Adapt to a work schedule consisting of no more than 19 hours per week which may include days, evenings, and weekends
  • Demonstrate commitment to associate degree nursing education 

Physical Demands

  • Manual dexterity and ability to lift and move 30 pounds
  • Instruction takes place in a classroom or conference/meeting room setting
  • Instruction may use virtual platforms such as zoom or teams 
  • Instruction may be transmitted virtually to students at Midland College’s Fort Stockton campus

Min Salary- $30.00 per hour

Max Salary- $30.00 per hour
